UGC guidelines: Students can now pursue two degrees simultaneously

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released guidelines on its latest provision, allowing postgraduate and undergraduate students to enrol in two full-time programmes simultaneously. This decision also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Students can pursue two full-time, same-level academic programmes in physical, online, or remote learning modes at the same time, giving them more options in their curricula choices.

The broad objectives of the new UGC guidelines are:

  1. No hard separation between art and science, between curricular and extra-curricular, between vocational and academic stream
  2. To eliminate hierarchy among different areas of study
  3. Students can study one or more specialized areas of interest at a deep level

This change in the guidelines aims to provide a multidisciplinary and holistic education across various subjects – sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, and sports for a multidisciplinary world.
