Architects are people with creative minds who are trained in the art and science of design. They design, plan and conceptualize structures that suit the need of the people who use them.
Admission to Architecture is done through a valid score in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by CoA and through JEE for Admission to IITs and other central government institutions.
The Council of Architecture (CoA) has sole authority to define and decide on admission standards for Architecture programmes. The CoA will determine programme eligibility and approve the courses. As per the CoA guidelines, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in class XII will be required for students applying for BArch.
Experts in the Architecture field shared different views on this decision. “As an architect, I feel class XII education be it PCM or otherwise does not impact the calibre of the professionals. Architecture is not only an expression of construction and rational, but also about imagination and creativity, which is felt in scientific principles and also in ideas and poetry. Opening opportunities beyond PCM would allow students with different interests and would bring a new and fresh collaborative learning experience. But, we need to adhere to the rules decided by the CoA,” says Snehal Nagarsheth, dean, School of Architecture, Anant National University.
